Eggless Donut Recipe
Serves: 7
Prep Time: 2 hours
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 & 1/2 cups (195g) all purpose flour /maida + more for dusting
- 3/4 cup warm milk or as needed
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For Glazing
- 50g powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon drinking water
Instructions
- In a wide bowl, add flour, salt, baking powder, yeast, and sugar, mix well until combined.
- Make a dent, add melted butter and warm milk.
- Mix and make a sticky dough. The dough should be on the sticky side but not watery. So adjust milk or flour as needed.
- Knead for 5 minutes and keep aside in a warm place, covering the bowl with cling wrap/lid.
- Once the dough is double after rising (will take 1 hour), punch and knead again smoothly. Grease hands to avoid stickiness.
- On a clean countertop, sprinkle flour and roll the dough to a thick sheet.
- Using a lid or round cookie cutter, cut into circles. Use a smaller lid/ cookie cutter to punch a hole inside the disc.
- Work on the remaining dough and repeat to finish the dough using the same process.
- Keep them aside for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat enough oil in a flat bottomed pan and once the oil is hot, drop the doughnuts carefully into the oil. One or two per batch depending on the size of the pan.
- The oil should not be fuming hot, just hot. So turn the heat to low while frying.
- Cook both sides until golden in color. Repeat to finish.
- Fry the cut-out center part of the dough too and enjoy as doughnut holes.
- Meanwhile, in a bowl, add 50g powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon drinking water, mix well until the mixture becomes smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a plate and dip the donuts in the sugar syrup and arrange on a wire rack.
