Furthermore, I would like to share some tips for making soft whole wheat bread recipe. Firstly, in this recipe I added instant yeast directly to the flour. But you can even mix the instant yeast with 1/2 cup of warm water and sugar in a separate bowl and keep it in a warm place for about 10 mins or until frothy. Then add this mixture to the wheat flour.
Secondly, Knead the dough for about 8 to 10 mins. knead the dough until you get a soft and smooth dough. The dough will be slightly sticky but after the initial rise, it will be fine. If the dough looks dry then add some water. If the dough looks too sticky then add some flour.
Finally, you can also add 2 tbsp of butter or 2 tbsp of ghee or 1 tbsp ghee and 1 tbsp olive oil as you like.

Whole Wheat Bread Recipe

Ingredients
- 360 grams (3 cups) whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp dry active yeast or instant yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp yogurt
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 3 tbsp (divided) olive oil
- 1&1/4 cup water
- some (for brushing) milk
Instructions
- In a wide bowl, add the flour, salt and yeast and mix until combined.
- Then add sugar, yogurt, ghee and oil. Just mix everything gently and then add water slowly and knead until you get a soft and smooth dough. You can add 1 tbsp of flour or water if needed. But the dough must remain slightly sticky, it will stick a bit to the bowl.
- Then apply some oil over the dough, cover loosely with cling film or kitchen towel or with a lid and let rise for 2 hours in a warm place or until doubled in size as shown in the picture.
- Meanwhile, lightly grease a 9" loaf pan with oil or non-stick spray.
- After 2 hours, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place in a prepared pan, cover loosely with greased foil or cling film and let rise in warm place until doubled in size for about 30 to 45 mins.
- Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 200 degrees C.
- Make a 2 to 5 mm cross by using knife on the dough and then brush the top of the loaf with milk.
- Bake for about 30 to 35 mins or until loaf sounds hollow when lightly tapped. If your bread is browning fast, cover lightly with foil.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for about 15 mins on a cooling rack.
- Then remove from the mold and let cool completely before slicing.
- Enjoy the bread with jam or peanut butter.
