  • 1 medium sized (150g) roughly chopped banana
  • 8 (pitted and chopped) kimia dates
  • Less than 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • Less than 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • As needed water
  • For deep frying oil

Instructions

  • In a blender or mixie jar, add sliced bananas and chopped dates, blend until smooth, and keep it aside.
  • In a wide bowl, add whole wheat flour, salt, and baking soda, mix well until combined.
  • Add the ground banana and dates mixture and water (1/2 to 3/4th cup), mix well. The consistency should be thick like vada batter.
  • Further, add in cardamom powder, ghee, and grated coconut, mix well until combined.
  • Heat a pan with oil over medium heat.
  • Using a spoon, scoop out some batter and drop it into the hot oil carefully, or damp your fingers and drop like vadas.
  • Fry 4 to 6 appams in a batch.
  • When the bottom sides of the appams are cooked, flip to the other side.

When the oil heats, by Using a spoon,
scoop out some batter and drop it

When the bottom sides of the appams
are cooked, they come up one by one.
This is the time to flip to another side.
Fry until both the sides become
golden brown

and drain from the oil to kitchen towel.
